My coworker brought in these cookies a few weeks ago to work and I nearly devoured the entire platter before realizing I wasn't in the privacy of my own apartment stuffing my face like it was my last supper. I immediately asked him for the recipe and was told it's the recipe for the "cookies that started it all" for breast cancer awareness. This recipe is the recipe used to sell cookies in order to raise money for breast cancer research...and are apparently big sellers....and if you make them, you'll see why. I'm usually not a baker, or much of a sweets person....I always say I'd take a burrito over a cookie any day....but sometimes you just need to have something sweet and these cookies are the perfect fix for that craving.
Chocolate Chip Oatmeal Cookies
2 sticks of butter (room temperature**)
1 cup light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 large egg (room temperature**)
1 egg yolk (**room temperature)
1 tbsp vanilla extract
2 cups All-purpose flour
1 cup quick cooking or old fashioned oats
1 tsp baking powder
salt
baking soda
3 cups chocolate chips
** the room temperature required for the butter and eggs are a MUST -- this will really aid in the texture of the cookies and your ability to mix all ingredients easier (especially since I was mixing by hand because of my lack of an electric beater).
This recipe will yield 2 dozen large cookies or 4 dozen smaller cookies! If you make these, be warned you will NOT be able to stop eating them....as evidenced by my 2am cookie fest every night this week....
In other news -- for New Years Eve Justin and I cooked Ostrich Filets and Elk Steaks! And on New Year's Day we made Buffalo Steaks! We got our meat from O. Ottomanelli & Sons, a fantastic Italian butcher on Bleeker Street which I highly recommend to anyone who likes any kind of meat....from Lamb to Elk, they literally have everything you can imagine. The cooking of all three meats was also extremely simple; we marinated them in Worcestershire Sauce, Pepper and a little bit of Chili Powder for a few hours and then broiled them on high, about 3-4 minutes on each side....they were FANTASTIC!
Yummmmm!
